Eucalypt
The upper branches of the eucalyptus, like a nyctalope,
linger over the eastern slope, shunning even shade. The
tears of Argus silver in the dark. Thin leaves shiver; the
bark in fibrous slivers strips. Strands of cypress finger the
fog's white tresses. Deadwood slives. Droplets leave. The
roots of the trees address their weeds. Moisture caresses
everything — everything laves.
Craig Dworkin is the author, most recently, of The Pine-Woods Notebook (Kenning Editions) and Helicography (Punctum Books). He teaches literary history and theory at the University of Utah.
