Rewilding

Dream again of the beginning,

of the hard skull emerging

like a tarp yanked from a woodpile.

Dream wherein the body wakes, still stoned,

still in its Titleist hat, the half-tamed racoons

gobbling Craisins on the porch.

Always it’s November, horizon a downed wire

beyond the crush of splintered stalks.

Learn about the pines from the pines,

the bamboo from the bamboo.

Every so often,

something gets out alive.

My recent work appears or is forthcoming in Puerto Del Sol, Slant, and Redactions. I'm the author of "Farmer, Antagonist," selected by Jennifer L Knox as the winner of the 2015 Burnside Review Chapbook contest. My full-length manuscript, The Stunt Double in Winter, is available from Dusie Press.
